Why this site is here

The Author:

My name is Dave, and I am a senior at a large school in southwestern Pennsylvania. This website is a result of a project every student is required to do during his or her senior year. As for me, I have always been fascinated with the American Civil War and had an interest in the ancient Egyptians which, has faded away. Within the past several years, my interests have expanded to include the Second World War; Vietnam, and most recently I have begun reading about the Iraq war.

My fascination with the Civil War has led me down my own path apart from others in my grade. Instead of being like a lot of teenagers and thinking books are a waste of my life, my collection of books dealing with American history has grown to consume the majority of a few large book shelves. Instead of taking to N'Sync and the Backstreet Boys when I was smaller, I took to Civil War music. Groups such as Acoustic Shadows of the Blue and Gray, Wayne Erbsen, and Bobby Horton. Songs such as Battle Cry of Freedom, Lorena, and Goober Peas filled my ears as odd looks came from friends and classmates.

It wasn't until visiting Fredericksburg Battlefield and few National Parks a few summers ago that I realized why these sites need preserved. That reason is not only so children of future generations can complain how boring seeing mile upon mile of rock formations is, but also that history and nature lovers everywhere have a place to take in the sites or have a primary source for their studies.
